Closing the opportunity gap demands hard work and dedication not only from scholars, but also a commitment from adults to eliminate barriers and grow new generations of college graduates, career professionals, and community leaders. Our community partners are committed and dedicated to ensure the success of every scholar. Each community partner focuses on one of the core components of the program: academic enrichment, counseling, leadership development, and mentorship.
The bridges experience cultivates leadership development, civil engagement, and team building- equipping scholars with an array of skills necessary to navigate and become successful in high school, college, and future career. Through a series of leadership and diversity trainings, community action projects, and social justice seminars, scholars are better prepared to initiate and lead social changes, to collaborate and work with individuals of intersectional identities, and to make a lasting impact on their community.
In the video below, scholars embark on their first Bridges' workshop- utilizing the opportunity to focus on team building, forming new and lasting relationships, and connecting with their mentors for the first time.
The Hattiloo Theatre experience introduces scholars to semiotics, visual literacy, and culture identity. This academic enrichment component enables scholars to engage in activities that challenges them to look beyond the initial perception of an image and to use context to draw not only a new perception, but their own perception. Scholars also focus on culture and self identity- learning who they are and how their culture and perception of self play a key role in shaping society.
In the video below, scholars use images, music, mentors, and facilitators to explore a new perception of their identity.
