This three-hour training provides participants with basic principles for facilitating bringing the match to closure in a way that affirms the contributions of the mentor and mentee, and offers them the opportunity to prepare for the closure and assess the experience.
The TEAM Mentor Program curriculum was developed for the Memphis Grizzlies Foundation in lead partnership with Facing History and Ourselves, an internationally acclaimed organization that works to instill intellectual rigor and curiosity in students around the world. The curriculum fosters independent, critical thinking skills that will help students become more responsible decision-makers.
During the second semester, the TEAM Mentor scholars embark on projects designed to help them grow as individuals and as a team. The 7th grade scholars work closely with Theatre Memphis directors, collaborating to script and perform a piece based on aspects of the curriculum. At the end of the program, each TEAM presents their original piece at the Showcase Finale event at Theatre Memphis. 8th grade scholars partner with local nonprofit organizations, such as St. Jude and Carpenter Art Garden, to create service learning projects that benefit the community.
Sessions explore themes relevant to daily student life including racism, prejudice, bullying, social media, and a health & fitness partnership with GrizzFit. TEAM outcomes are measured by progress against key indicators:
- Public speaking
