Each year, mentoring programs leverage National Mentoring Month to recruit volunteer mentors through MENTOR’s Mentoring Connector, the only national database of quality mentoring programs that enables volunteers to search for local mentoring opportunities.
Founded in 2001, New Ballet Ensemble and School is a bridge-building Community School of the Arts and Creative Youth Development organization, serving every corner of the Mid South.
New Ballet’s Align Mentoring program provides one-to-one and group mentoring services with a focus on matching middle-school aged students training on scholarship at New Ballet School with a volunteer mentor. The Align program introduces students to the broader community and opportunities and fosters relationships between peers from diverse backgrounds.
Align Mentoring works to enhance the potential of their youth and provide every child at New Ballet Ensemble and School with a mentor. Through the program, students broaden their view of the world, expose themselves to new opportunities and further integrate into the Memphis community.
New Ballet Ensemble goal is to align the interests and needs between mentor and mentee, strengthen the child's areas of weakness while celebrating his/her strengths. Mentors meet with the students at New Ballet Ensemble after school and before or after their afternoon of dance training once weekly for one hour Monday through Thursday or on Saturday.
In the fall of 2016, New Ballet Ensemble expanded their program to include "lunch buddies" at Dunbar Elementary. The lunch buddies program is where mentors visit the cafeteria once weekly for lunch with one student.
