I am a mentor at Streets Ministries, an organization dedicated to serving youth in some of Memphis' toughest neighborhoods. When Jasmine, my 13-year-old-mentee, visited my portrait studio for her 'sitting', her face lit up when she saw the finished product – and so have the faces of the numerous Streets Ministries kids I have painted since then.
We help connect students to caring adult mentors in relationships that have a positive influence on the way each sees the world.
"The meaningful relationships student mentees form are critical to their overall development and we want those relationships to endure. So, we let volunteer mentors know we're with them every step of the way.” – Elliot Perry, Memphis Grizzlies Foundation, Board Chair
My name is Terrence Vaughn, Jr. I'm a recent graduate of George Washington Carver High School and a 2014-2015 MIFA COOL program mentee. Hard work, dedication, preparation, and time management helped me achieve one of my biggest goals, which was to graduate high school.
My next goal has now been set: I am going to graduate from college with a Business degree.
